"Training our youth today to be our leaders of tomorrow"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do we have to be a member of NERLEEA to attend events
A: Yes, we require all cadet programs along with their individual members that want to participate in our programs to be members of the association.  Some exceptions to this are a few of our social events where we allow guests to come who are not members such as family members to our banquet.  We also allow staff members at our training events who are not regular advisors or active members with cadet programs to participate however they must be registered as one of our volunteers with a registration form completed.

Q: Do we need to quit the Boy Scouts Learning for Life Exploring Program to participate in your programs
A: No, There is no reason what so ever to quit the Boy Scouts Learning for Life Program.  We do not encourage or discourage membership to the Boy Scouts of America or Learning for Life.  This is an individual decision each department needs to make based on their own needs.

Q: Do we need to be registered with NERLEEA to attend NERLEEA sponsored events
A: Yes, All posts, advisors and cadets that attend NERLEEA sponsored events need to be registered with NERLEEA.  We have different levels of membership that accomidate different situations. There are a number of reasons for this and can be discussed with any advisor on an individual basis.  Below is a list of membership levels we currently have.  If anyone has questions concerning this can contact us at assoc-info@nerleea,org

Regular membership is for the entire year, it cost $65.00 per unit and $4.00 per advisor and cadet.  In 2012 this will be changing to $65.00 ler year, $5.00 per cadet and advisors will be free.  By being registered as a member of NERLEEA accident medical coverage is extended to its members, and up to $5,000,000 in liability coverage is extended to our staff members.

Temporary membership is for posts that are only planning on attending ONE event during the calander year.  This membership coss $25.00 per post and $4.00 per cadet and Advisors are free.  This membership is only good for the one event they are attending and will expire at the end of the event.  If a post wishes to attend future events in that same calandar year then they will need to register as a regular member and pay regular membership fees.

Volunteer staff are staff members who are not normally involved with a post but want to come and participate in an event to assist.  Many times these are College students or family members.  They need to fill out a volunteer staff form to be officially registered with NERLEEA.  This will register them as a staff member and will allow them to be covered under our liability coverage as a staff member.

Q: We already have insurance that covers the cadets why do we have to pay the membership fee?
A: The membership fee is just that, a membership fee, it is not an insurance fee.  Everyone registered as a regular or temporary member needs to pay this fee.  The insurance coverage just comes along with membership.
